State Representatives

Learn how to beome a NICA State Representative!

NICA State Representatives are individuals who have volunteered to attend meetings and conventions, give presentations or workshops, recruit new members and promote the programs and philosophy of NICA.

Any NICA member may apply to become a State Representative, or make a recommendation for another person to be contacted regarding this important, nation-wide program. All applications will be reviewed by the NICA Board of Directors. The State Representative distinction will be awarded upon approval of the board.

Two meetings with the State Representatives and the NICA Board of Directors are held each year - one in Las Vegas during the IAFE Convention and one in Tampa during Florida Week.

Representatives are provided with a Reference Manual, which includes:

  1. A copy of all NICA's forms

  1. Familiarize one-self with the reference manual and the information included.
  2. Communicate with concessionaires, event management and the membership
    a) Talk with concessionaires through personal contact or an organized NICA meeting (see manual section 18). It is vital that our members feel like they are a part of this organization. They need a ‘local contact’ for sharing ideas, concerns and suggestions.
    b) Talk with event management through personal contact or by helping them establish a Communication Committee (see manual section 18)
    c) Recruite new members while doing the above. Know member benefits.
    d) “Toot your own horn!” by contacting the NICA office or Board of Directors liaison about successful happenings.
    e) Write stories for NICA NEWS. Anything from weddings, births, deaths, meetings to successful communication committees.
  3. PROMOTE programs that NICA supports
    a) Serve-Safe - this has became a requirement in most states in 2005 (see manual inside back cover pocket)
    b) Central Sentinel - to help with security (see manual section 16)
    c) State Association and IAFE Zone Meetings - plan to attend and participate in your state association meetings.  Try to get NICA on the agenda!
    d) Exclusive issues/Fair Contracts/Business Plan (see manual section 19 & 20)
    e) Fundraisers such as CSK, bowling, golf tournaments, Super Raffle tickets, etc. (see manual section 18)
